LDWF to duck hunters: Watch for spill cleanup

Louisiana’s Department of Wildlife and Fisheries warns duck hunters to watch out for oil spill cleanup work.

Duck season runs Nov. 13 through Jan. 30.

The department says the Coast Guard and spill response workers will start work late this weekend to reduce crowding at boat ramps.

The cleanup continues in coastal marshes, bays and beaches. Other workers are trapping fish and taking samples of aquatic plants to assess environmental damage.

Hunters also are asked to report any oiled birds they see to the department. Harvested oiled birds must be kept as part of the daily bag limit, wrapped, and turned over to the department for oil spill damage assessment.
