Gulf Coast Claims Facility November 23rd Deadline
Nov. 23 deadline to file emergency real estate claim
In August 2010, Kenneth Feinberg, administrator of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, created a separate emergency claims fund for real estate professionals. Feinberg came to realize the importance of real estate claims after numerous meetings and conversations with Realtors from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, including representatives from the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors).
The fund works similarly to the Gulf Coast Claims Facility but is solely for real estate licensees who suffered loss of income or a loss of transaction directly related to the April 20 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
The last date for real estate licensees to file a claim through the emergency real estate fund is Nov. 23. After that date, no new emergency real estate claims will be accepted. According to Feinberg, after Nov. 23, real estate licensees can apply to the Gulf Coast Claims Facility for a final payment claim.
ECAR is one of five locations for real estate licensees to file a claim. Membership in ECAR is not required to file a claim. To file a claim, contact ECAR at 850-243-6145 and ask to speak to a claims adjustor.
ECAR is located at 10 Hollywood Blvd SE in Fort Walton Beach and is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
