The latest project from Hands Across the Gulf involves providing a full Christmas dinner for families still struggling financially due to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Some fishermen are still not working or are not bringing in the same income as prior to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Others still have not received reimbursement on their claims for lost income due to the disaster last summer. Many families along the Gulf Coast are depending on the kindness and generosity of others and are turning to charity organizations to make this a happy holiday season for their family this year. So, Hands Across the Gulf has decided to directly affect as many of these families as possible, by providing a wonderful meal for Christmas. We hope that with this small gesture these families will be able to enjoy the holiday around their own table, at home.

Hands Across the Gulf” was founded shortly after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon when reports of fishermen and seafood industry workers being grounded or put out of business began filling the airwaves. The original mission of Hands Across the Gulf was to produce Benefit Concerts in communities around the Gulf Coast, as the means to raise funds to assist those communities however it was needed the most. The funds may go to provide financial assistance to those who’ve lost their livelihood, health care and testing for illnesses suspected of being related to the oil and dispersants used, to purchase supplies needed for clean up of wildlife, beaches or the water itself, or for training of the volunteers helping with clean-up efforts, just to name a few.

Lauderdale on Sunday, August 15, 2010, and the third was in Houston, TX on September 25, 2010 at Cullen’s Live. We still have three more states to go, in order to have at least one concert in each Gulf Coast state. But, while we work to secure sponsorship and funding for the next show, we wanted to continue the goal of the organization, which ultimately is to provide assistance for those affected by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The “Adopt a Fishing Family for Christmas” program is a perfect way to directly help some of these families and to keep the organization moving forward.
