Oil Rig Explodes 3 Workers Injured

Coast Guard: 3 hurt when rig explodes

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard says a workover rig exploded and caught fire south of New Orleans, injuring at least three workers.

The accident took place on Bayou Perot. Petty Officer Elizabeth Bordelon says the accident occurred about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. The injured were transported to West Jefferson Medical Center. She did not know their conditions.

 Bordelon says the rig — which performs specialized oilfield work — along with the well caught fire. The blaze is out.

 The Coast Guard says its has no reports of pollution.
