MANATEE COUNTY —
You may want to hold off on the oysters for a while in Manatee County.
The health department says somebody get sick from eating the shellfish.
Until the investigation is complete, the department is disclosing little about the case, including the possible source of the tainted oysters or date of the report.
The department did identify the infection as stemming from the bacteria species Vibrio vulnificus. Doctors say this is seen in raw or undercooked oysters.
Symptoms, which can begin to make the person ill after 12 to 24 hours, include vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
